Weather scenario is a web service, which delivers weather scenarios (combination of past weather and weather forecasts) for each requested location in the Netherlands in a high spatial resolution and a temporal resolution of one hour for up to one year ago and nine days ahead. Available variables are Temperature, Relative Humidity, Rainfall, Pressure, Specific humidity, height of boundary layer, wind speed at 10m and reference potential evapotranspiration following Penman-Monteith.

Weather Scenario Calculation Short-range weather forecasts are done by dynamical downscaling of Global Forecast System (GFS) forecasts using the the Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF). The results are high resolution forecasts on 6.2 km horizontal resolution. Data are updated once per day and are available until 20 UTC for next 3 days.

For medium-range weather forecasts GFS data are interpolated to 5.5 km rectangular grid using geo-statistical methodology Data are updated daily and are available until 17 UTC for next 9 days.

Past weather is based on 35 publicly available Royal Netherlands Meteorological institute (KNMI) stations data, which are interpolated to 5.5 km grid using geostatistical methodology. Data are updated daily and are available until 12 UTC of the next day.

Weather Scenario Service The capability with associated request and response messages is defined in FIspace core component. The request message contains information about time period, location and requested weather variables. Based on this information the backend prepares weather scenario data for the nearest location. Besides that, the weather scenario response message contains information about time period, location and variables as well.
